Sweating is normal and healthy. Our body has 2 to 4 million glands that release sweat when our body heats up to regulate body temperature. But, if you sweat too much, it could be due to a medical condition called primary axillary hyperhidrosis (excessive underarm sweating). Our Botox treatment is a proven game-changer for this medical condition that significantly reduces the amount of sweating, making it easier for you to move around and perform routine activities with comfort and confidence.

Teeth grinding (bruxism) is another major problem for which Botox injectables work to help you reduce clenching and teeth grinding. Each of our treatments is tailored according to the client’s needs to provide optimal results.

Botox for Medical Conditions

Botox is most well known for being one of the most popular and safest non-surgical treatments used to smoothen the skin by reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. In addition, with years of research and testing, Botox treatments have evolved outside of cosmetic purposes, and it has been approved as a treatment for several medical conditions, such as chronic migraine, cervical dystonia, overactive bladder, blepharospasm (like eylid twitching), strabismus (crossed eyes), and excessive underarm sweating (hyperhidrosis). It is also used to treat severe neck and shoulder muscle spasms, hemifacial spasm, and post-stroke upper limb spasticity.

Aside from these, Botox is also used by other physicians to address bruxism (teeth clenching), cerebral palsy, laryngeal dystonia, allergic rhinitis, acne, and achalasia. However these uses are “off-label,” meaning to say that the FDA hasn’t recognized Botox’s efficacy in treating these conditions, even though it may be commonly used by doctors and other health care professionals.

Here’s a description of some of the medical conditions that can be addressed with tailored Botox treatment at R&R Rejuvenation.

Botox Beyond Beauty & Body Aesthetics

Axillary Hyperhidrosis

Excessive sweating in the underarms and other body parts (forehead, hands, feet) can be a very distressing and embarassing medical condition, greatly impacting your self confidence and social life. But at R&R Rejuvenation, we use Botox for the FDA-approved treatment of axillary hyperhidrosis (excessive underarm sweating) to bring back your self confidence and keep your
underarms dry.

Botox for axillary hyperhidrosis is a quick procedure of several injections in each underarm where the sweat glands are located. This can significantly reduce underarm sweating for up to 9months. Some patients even describe their underarms as “bone dry” and love it compared to the excessive sweating they had before.

Bruxism

Bruxism is an unconscious condition that makes you unknowingly clench, grind, or gnash your teeth. This can lead to soreness of the jaw, damaged teeth, headaches, and overtime an appearance of a wide jaw due to the masseter muscles (jaw muscles) becoming larger. While treating bruxism with Botox is an off-label treatment, it can help reduce clenching/grinding and the associated jaw pain, helping you to feeling better. Another benefit is that if the masseter muscles are enlarged from clenching, Botox can help slim the jaw line giving a more desired look.

Migraine

Migraine is a debilitating neurological condition associated with severe headaches, nausea, vomiting, light and sound sensitivity, and is one of the leading causes of disability worldwide. It affects about 12% of the US population, translating to roughly 39 million people in the US suffering from migraine. In 2010, Botox was approved for chronic migraine, which is having 15 or more headache days/month for at least 3 months.

Treating chronic migraine with Botox involves 31 injections around the face, head, neck and shoulders. Although many medspas and people that inject Botox for cosmetic purposes will also inject their cosmetic patients for migraine, they often do not use the actual studied and proven injection protocol and doses for treating chronic migraine, often only injecting the forehead and temple areas. Dr. Kim is a fellowship trained, UCNS certified headache specialist, and is intimately familiar with treating migraine with Botox. He states that “although Botox is an effective treatment for chronic migraine, optimally treating migraine involves a multifaceted and well-rounded approach.” He would not typically recommend having chronic migraine treated at a medspa or typical aesthetics practice, but rather by a neurologist, or an headache specialist.
